This Guideline G 265‑3 shall apply to the design, construction, manufacture, construction, testing, commissioning and operation of plants for the injection of hydrogen into gas transmission and supply networks for gases in accordance with DVGW Code of Practice G 260, including the necessary service lines and ancillary equipment. This DVGW Guideline complements DVGW Code of Practice G 265‑1 and DVGW Guideline G 265‑2 by specifying the technical safety requirements to be observed in respect of the material properties of hydrogen and hydrogenated natural gas for the plants described in the preceding paragraph. It furthermore complements the requirements on pipelines specified in DVGW Codes of Practice G 462‑1, G 462‑2 and G 463 by describing the specific requirements in respect of hydrogen. Additionally, it explains how to handle hydrogen measurements during the course of injection.

This Code of Practice G 493‑1 serves as a basis for certifying and awarding the DVGW certification mark to specialised companies that design, manufacture and set up turn‑key gas pressure regulating and gas measuring stations. Quality, safety and security have always been given top priority by the gas industry, and this shall continue to be so in the future. Company certification is indispensable for meeting this goal; this 5th edition of this Code of Practice provides the basis for certification. This Code of Practice describes not only the qualification criteria to be met by the relevant companies but also ‑ and in some more detail ‑ the fields of work in which appointed experts have to demonstrate particular knowledge. The fact that the Energy Industry Act (EnWG) has now broadened the meaning of the term ?biogas? to include hydrogen from renewable sources has created new qualification requirements for appointed experts.
