Content of DVGW Guideline G 221

DVGW Guideline G 221 shall ensure the applicability of the DVGW Sets of Rules to the complete gas infrastructure value chain that falls under the legal purview of the Energy Industry Act (EnWG).

G 221 creates a basis for the evaluation and acceptance of all gas infrastructure elements for the operation with hydrogen and gases with hydrogen contents. The requirements defined in this Guideline that are specific to hydrogen, shall be taken into account for planning and operation.

G 221 provides information on bases of evaluation and other sources of insight. This procedure relies on the competency of manufacturers and persons responsible for carrying out testing during the evaluation of material compatibility and of safety measures.

Furthermore, this current Guideline provides information on the operation and maintenance of pipelines and systems for the supply of the general public that are operated with natural-gas-hydrogen mixtures or hydrogen and on the qualifications of persons and companies entrusted with these tasks.
